About
Independent field reporting from a working mixed farm near Mwembeshi, Zambia.
Carbonnest is an independent field publication about sustainability and small-scale agriculture in Zambia. It is written and maintained by Bright Kapamulomo, a farmer and software builder working with AgroCode Farm.

Why this publication exists
Much sustainability advice is written for different climates, currencies and supply chains. Carbonnest asks a narrower question: what works on a Zambian farm when water, labour, input prices and routes to market are counted honestly?
The reporting base is a mixed farm near Mwembeshi, at Mwembeshi Child Fund – CCF, 14 kilometres off Mwamba Road. Farm activities include vegetable production, bananas, ducks, goats, pigs, fish and chickens. This range creates practical questions about soil fertility, irrigation, organic material, feed, food loss, energy and farm economics.
Experience and limits
Bright combines hands-on farm work with software development and record-system design. That makes Carbonnest especially interested in how farm observations become usable records. It does not make every field observation a scientific conclusion. Where a post reports a farm trial, the method, dates, units and limitations are stated. Where a post relies on external research, it is described as research rather than personal experience.
What we publish
- Dated farm field notes and photographs
- Costs recorded in Zambian kwacha (ZMW)
- Biochar, compost and soil-fertility trial methods
- Water and solar-irrigation logs
- Fertilizer and labour comparisons
- Food-loss, market and climate-resilience observations
Carbonnest will say when evidence is incomplete, when a trial failed, and when a number is still being collected. Read our editorial policy, sourcing and measurement method, and corrections policy.
